Model Horse Show

There will be a total of six shows for the 2009-2010 school year: September 8, October 13, November 10, January 12, February 9 and March 9.  New this year is the opportunity to enter eight (8) classes per Model Horse Show.

We will again meet the Second Tuesday of each month, 7:00 – 8:15 p.m.  at Grace Community Chapel in St. Peters at 7661 Mexico Road, in room #109 on the lower level.  You may enter the side door from the lower parking lot on the east side of the building, inside the building go left into Kid's Town and the room will be on the left.  Please contact chocolateorelse@gmail.com if you would like to participate.

There will be a minimal fee for each student of $3.00 per semester to cover the cost of ribbons. This fee will need to be paid at the first show of each semester. Please send a reply if you are going to participate in the 2009-2010 Model Horse Show.

MODEL HORSE SHOW IS NOW ACCEPTING NEW STUDENTS AGE 10 AND UP. All students will need to read and sign the Model Horse Show Participation Agreement attached at the end of this web page.  Existing students under 10 are still welcome to participate in the shows if they have turned in their Model Horse Show Participation Agreement.

Contact: Model Horse Show at
chocolateorelse@gmail.com if you would like to participate or for more information.

Helpful information for enjoying full participation:

Model Horse Notebook: Copies that are hole punched and ready to be placed in a notebook are $6.00.

Model Horse Tack Patterns:  Copies that are hole punched and ready to be placed in a notebook are $8.00.

Please print this article and place it with your Model Horse Notebook for reference when preparing for the September Model Horse Show.

Please remember:  Props, dioramas and back drops add a nice touch, but judging the show is about the beauty of the horse.

Halter Classes are always:  One horse with no tack (other than an optional halter), no rider and no diorama.

EXAMPLE of judging guidelines:  This is not one of the September classes.

Breyer Horse and Barn Class

Instructions:  Total of 16 available points.

  • 2 points: Horse with or with out tack and with or with out rider
  • 2 points: Barn
  • 2 points: Horse/horse's name.
  • 2 points: Age
  • 2 points:  Breed of horse.
  • 2 points: Brief description about the set.
  • 2 points:  On back of card write your name.
  • 2 points: Attach the index card to the horse with string or yarn.

Beauty of the horse only:  10 available points.

Rate on a scale of 1 – 5 the following:

Scale:  Consistent scale size for tack and props.  5 points available.

Presentation:  A well done exhibit that represents the class category well.  5 points available.

Creativity:  Imagination and detail.  5 points available.

You may enter as many horses as you would like in most classes unless it is specified one horse only (such as in Halter Class).

EXAMPLE: These are not the September classes.

You may enter a total of eight (8) events.  You may have more than one horse in an event.

  • Draft Horse Halter Class – one horse
  • Mare and Foal Halter Class – two horses
  • Stallion Halter Class – one horse
  • Pinto Halter Class – one horse
  • Shetland Pony Class – one horse
  • Arabian Horse in Costume - one horse
  • Patriotic Theme - 5 different horses walking in a parade
  • Creative Open Class - a herd of 8 wild mustangs on a prairie diorama or a mountain diorama

That is a total of eight (8) events, but a total of fifteen (20) horses.

If you have multiple horses in a class they must be listed as one entry and grouped together with one tag.  If the entry is very large, use one main tag to list all the information of the horses and number and name each horse on this card. Individually number each horse to correspond with the main tag. The main card only needs to be attached to one horse.  A corresponding number may be attached to each of the other horses.

Remember to hole punch and attach the card to the horse with string or yarn.

Dear Model Horse Show participants,

To ensure a smooth running program that displays respectful attitudes and judging that is done in a quick and orderly fashion based on a point system, I will ask for a parent and student to sign a participation agreement form.   Please read the agreement, sign and return it at the September show. If you have multiple children attending you may all sign the same form.

I am glad to be leading the Model Horse Show and hope that it provides many good memories for your student.   I want this to be enjoyable and time well spent, as students learn more about horses and enjoy the model horse hobby together.

To ensure respect for the property we are using and respect for one another during the show we will abide by the following guidelines.

POLICY FOR USING THE CHURCH

We have use of Room #109 only and must stay in our room unless using the bathroom or getting a drink. Youth Group will come and go in all other rooms throughout the course of the evening. I understood fully when making an agreement with the church that there would be much activity and loud noise to contend with during our Model Horse Show.   For this reason we keep our door closed to limit the amount of noise and outside distractions.  When exiting the building please be respectfully quiet so we do not interrupt Youth Group meeting which is also taking place in the basement.   If there is a problem in the building, distractions, a broken item or if you left an item in the building during our meeting PLEASE contact me.  I will take care of the issue.  I am responsible for all communication with the church staff regarding the use of the building. No snacks or food during the meeting. Drinking water is permitted. Younger siblings may not play unsupervised in the building or outside.   Preschoolers must be accompanied by a parent when going to the restroom.  Any defacement of church property, (chairs, tables, walls, etc.) will result in forfeiting attendance at the Model Horse Shows.

RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOR DURING MEETINGS

To keep our show on time each student needs to set up by 7:10 p.m.   Students must be allowed to set up their horses without interruption.  When you have finished setting up you may quietly walk around and look at the exhibits or sit down at the table to talk with friends.

No talking during student presentations, teacher presentations or awards presentations.   Raise your hand to answer questions or ask them.  We have so much fun together but I can not have talking during the meeting or we will not accomplish our goals for the evening.   Parents, if your child is whispering, talking, or being a distraction to me or others, I will warn them by name once and then I will call on you by name to take care of the distraction.   If a pattern of misbehavior or talking out of turn develops I will call and talk to the parent the next day to remind them of this agreement.  It the problem continues at the next meeting the child will forfeit attending the Model Horse Shows. I want our students to have holy and pleasing conduct in all areas of their lives that brings glory to God, and shines a bright light on homeschooling. It takes much love, commitment, self-control and energy to have an excellent program that is enjoyable to everyone involved.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to work with your student.   They delight me every month when I see how excited they are about their horses and how creative they have been in preparing for the Model Horse Show.

Feel free to send an email if you have any questions or concerns.
